In when I turned 18, Capital One Visa sent me information on a pre-approved credit card. I had no credit and a job that always let me work overtime so I was excited to start shopping. I received the card with a $200.00 limit, (which I thought was an actual limit!)
After finding myself incurring major intrest charges because I was allowed to go over the $200.00 limit and made minimum payments, I stopped usage and told Capital One that I wanted to close my account. The representative told me okay and gave me a final balance a little above $350.00.
In 2006 I attempted to get a new apartment and needed to take care of that balance. I had been saving and was more that happy to pay. When I called my current balance was over $500 (?)! The reperesentative told me I could settle for less, but I told her I wanted to pay the full amount and paid my fiance's account off, also $500 using the same checking account.
I recently got my credit report to find that the account was listed as "Charged Off" and that I could still pay the remaining balance.
I called Capital One - they offered me to pay more money! The representative said there was no one else to talk to.
Please help me with any info in a similar situation... How did you resolve it?
No capital one visas!!
