After 5 years of dealing with Ocwen, we now have two weeks to get out of our house. We purchased our home in 1999, and two months later were informed that Ocwen had purchased the note.
Like others, we started out one month behind. We actually got caught up at one point, only to have Ocwen claim to have never received a payment. We put a stop pay on it and immediatly sent in another one, only to be told it was late. We were back where we started.
In December we began receiving foreclosure notices In early January, we were served the papers telling us our home was being foreclosed on. I started trying to contact Ocwen, but was unable to reach the person they said could help us. After three days of leaving messages, I was finally contacted and told I needed to sign a forbearance agreement.
When I asked how much we owed, I was told we owed over $3000 in payments, late fees and attorney fees, and that we had to fill out the agreement, sign it, and fax it back that day, along with a payment of $1500. We did so, and began making payments of $350 more than before.
I made the payments by phone, since they were credited that day. For 1 year we never missed a payment. After completing the agreement, we received notice that we now owed more than $6200, again in late fees and lawyer fees. They would not accept any lesser amount.
I tried over and over to speak to someone, but when I got to speak to an actual person, I couldn't understand them. We received daily automated calls and letters, each urging us to contact Ocwen. It was useless.
On May 5th I received a call from a local realtor, asking why we were still in the house. He then informed me that it had been sold back to Ocwen at the sheriff's sale on Tuesday.
We were never sent or served notice. So, right now we are scrambling to find a place for my wife and I and 4 kids to live.
We're now facing homelessness, bankruptcy, and ruined credit. It just doesn't get much better than this. Man, if there's a lawsuit around somewhere, sign me up. I'd love to meet some of these guys or their lawyers face to face.
