We have parent plus loans and for the past 2 years have used a consolidation offers received in the mail.in january we went to reconsolidate with another mailed offer. Salliemae phoned us soon after and offered a consolidatoin at 2.12 percent far better then what we had been offered. I wrote the information down and accepted. They had the paper work to us within two days.
Here is where i made the mistake i didnt ask for the offer in writing the only thing on the paperwork was a short paragraph that stated unless we inform u different the interest rate is figured by blah blah blah its always been a mailed offer but the same consolidation paperwork so we signed. They drug their feet on the loan and when i phoned the woman who offered me the loan in the first place said they were just in charge of offers and i would need to contact customer care. I got the run around from them and they finally finished the loan in april.
I received the disbursement papers and the loan was at 4.75 percent. When i phoned i got the run around again and was told there was no way they offered me that. I filed with my state attorney general and the federal goverenment. Without the offer in writing not much i can do but am trying... Just beware of salliemae... I made the mistake of thinking they wouldnt lie to me.
