I have them their service for 12 months and I'm moving to another state. I found an apartment and when I went to move service they do not allow DirectTV on their property. I called them and they said no problem, not my fault, just get a letter from the property manager explaining the situation and send it to us. Today I go to send them the letter and of course talk to a different customer rep and now I have to pay $220 cancellation fee. I have never liked their customer service because they are generally incompetent, but I would have finished out the year had I been allowed at the new residence. So I asked for a supervisor, they refused. The ONLY way to cancel out service early without paying the cancellation fee is if they came out there to the apt and went on the roof and checked to see if it gets a signal—if it doesn't then you don't have to pay. I again explained, I can't necessarily have them try for coverage on the roof of a building that does not allow directTV on the property. They directed me to the "the law that requires them to let me have it" from the FCC (www.directv.com/fcc) and of course that specifically discuses "exclusive use of balcony/patio/terrace, " I don't have any of that so there is no where to put it, and the rental company can say no. Somehow, Jimmy just didn't grasp that. So, I will pay the $220 and be done with this company... But it might be my new mission to spread the word to anyone who wonders if DirectTV is a good company. I think there are certain situations that call for common sense, I was not expecting him to take my word for it, but from the leasing company and that was still not good enough. I wouldn't get DirecTV for my dog.
