Kay Jewelers is AWFUL - Engagement Ring

What a terrible experience my fiance and I have had with Kay Jewelers. We went in on a Friday night in Late September to start the process of looking at engagement rings. We were greeted by a saleswoman who seemed like she gave a sh*t about us. She talked a bunch of nonsense that we bought at the time and I tried on a bunch of rings. At the time we told her that we were interested in buying a set so that I didnt have to search for a wedding band to match the engagement ring. We tried on several sets and found one that we both really loved. I told her that the center stone looked a little bit cloudy to me, to which she replied that it was just dirty from everyone trying it on, and it would clean up much better. We made it clear that we were going to purchase the set, he was going to set up a time to pick it up with her in order to surprise me. We also talked about how it was possible to leave the wedding band there as we were probably not going to get married for another 2 years and did not want to have the band sitting around the house if we did not need to. She assured us that since we were purchasing it that day, we could leave it in their safe and give them about a month notice before our wedding to have it sized and cleaned. GREAT!

A couple of weeks later my fiance went to the store to pick up the ring. At this time he was told that he only purchased one ring. The "Bridal Set" that appears on both of our receipts is just the way they write it up. When he proposed to me the ring was the wrong size, so we had to go back to the store to get it sized. On the way to the store he told me about how they are saying that he had only purchased the engagement band and asked if I thought we were purchasing both. Now, I am crying in the store about an hour after I have gotten engaged (what is supposed to be the happiest day of my life so far). The people at the store do not care. Oh, by the way, the Center stone STILL looks cloudy to me. I call corporate to complain and they basically say, sorry that happened... THATS ALL.

The ring took almost 2 weeks to get sized. I pick it up, still cloudy, and ask for the paperwork for the appraisal to send to my insurance company. They inform me that they do not have anyone in house that does appraisals. So, I bring it, a few days later to a different jewelry store to have someone look at it. She tells me right away that the color and clarity that I was told the ring was, is way off. She also tells me that the center stone is set crookedly which means that it was either set wrong or that the prongs are loose. After all of this I immediately brought the stone back to Kay to return. It was a very long process, but they were finally able to find the $350 down payment that we put on it and credit my account. I called corporate again when I got home to complain about being lied to AGAIN and to close my account. Again, they did not seem to care AT ALL.

Last week I attempted to call corporate several times to ask where my check was for the down payment. Both times I attempted to call the recording said to call back during normal business hours, but the hours listed were "normal business hours." Finally, today, I got through and they are not able to see any track of my down payment. So, I am off to the bank to get a copy of the check... Because I have time for this.

bottom line, do not shop at kay jewelers. They are awful.

I got my replacement ring this past weekend at Hannoush Jewelers. The quality is amazing and they worked with me to pick the diamonds in the store that I wanted and build the ring that was for me! Go to hannoush!!!
