I bought a new Motorola GSM phone. Customer service rep told me it would work in area I was currently living and also in area I was moving to. I was already working in the new area and the phone worked just ok as long as I stayed out by the interstate. It was always dropping calls. But when I went into downtown (a very small town) the phone wouldn't have a signal.
When I moved to the area the phone wouldn't even work inside my house, out in the yard nothing. So I called AT&T. Well, I got the run around. They kept telling me "You had 15 days to return the phone" which I would have done if I would have known the phone wasn't going to work anywhere but by the interstate.
They wouldn't take the phone back, charged me $299 for phone, $175 early termination fee, plus monthly fees for service when I couldn't even use the phone. Total bill ended up being over $600 of which I paid $100 of it of which I paid $100 for services that I did owe for.
So now I have a $300 phone that from what I understand can't be used again unless I sign back up with them and a bill collector hounding me about paying the bill and believe me, he's nasty.
