AHS Won't repair items covered in warranty

I have had AHS for about 10 years.in the past they have been fairly good and about 5 years ago they replaced one of our two AC units with hardly a question. The last couple of years they seem to look for any reason to deny a claim. My 22 year old upstairs unit quit cooling good enough to hold the temp upstairs. The temp difference between the intake and output has always been 18 degress or better, but now is 10-12 degrees. The first guy they sent out told me that the freon was good, but the high pressure side was too high, which indicated a bad compressor. He said the condensor unit would need to be replaced and took the information. Yesterday, the repairman called and said AHS wanted another person to look at the unit. I met them and they took photos of the unit. There is a small portion of the condensor fins that are bent in when a maintenence guy sprayed water pretty hard and messed up the fins - but it is a very small portion and has been this way for years. I was called today to say that the claim was being denied due to improper removal of chemicals.??? When I finally got through to the dispute line he said that it was reported that I had done an acid wash and not properly washed off the acid. I told the guy that I have never done an acid wash and nothing but water had ever been used to clean the fins. They are sending a second opnion guy, but reading previos posts on here I doubt it will change their minds.

The previos issue I had was when the garage door opener broke. I had used it for over 10 years, and it broke. The repairman came out, took about 2 minutes to look at it, looked at the springs that had been on the door for years, then called AHS. He came back a few minutes later and said he didn't think the springs were the right ones for the door and that's what caused the opener to break. I tried to explain that it had worked fine for over 10 years, but at that point AHS would not pay.

If you are looking at a home warranty as insurance against costly repairs - avoid AHS at all costs. They do not pay to repair anything that costs more than a few dollars.
