I want to bring my story up to this site, so that readers will not go through the same experience again. We signed on the "order of sercie" with Star of David Moving to ship our household goods from New Jersey to California on May 10. The pick-up men came in late afternoon that day. One of them told me they normally receive 10% tips (of total transport charge). It was rush as it's getting late, and we gave the guys $100 as tip (though only 3%). We felt their hardwork.
We then went through numerous fights with Star of David about the status, whereabout, and even who to call, etc. We were told not to call them but call a third party. We were told to have no right to speak with sales people. The delivery time was postponed five times by their dispatcher. Everything you can imagine, we went through them, and finally got our stuff on July 25, two and half month later.
What we received are a bunch of severely scratched, broken furniture and art works, etc. Again, we went through countless phone calls, emails and mails, we finally got a letter telling me that they would offer no compensation for all the damages, and would only give us $200 for the delay as good will. They said, in the letter, all the damages were made before pick up. And they actually do not carry obligation for any length of delay. They told me they do not accept phone calls or emails. All claims or communications must be in postal mails. If you are not happy, go ahead to do whatever you like.
We were shock, and were referred to the bill of lading, and found that EVERY single item in the inventory list was marked "SC" or "CH". Then we found that they meant scratched or chipped. How can this happen? ONLY because we were not carefull enough to read the bill of lading at the pick-up, and we signed it. I tried to recall why the pick-up men did this. All I can remember is that guy told me he's from Israel. I don't even know his name.
Yes, it is our fault as not to read carefully a contract before signing it. However, people, does this justify a business fraud? This could be an individual's bad intention. He could be in bad mood. Or, he did this for a living to get kick-back from the shipping company.
Because of our carelessness, we are not going to receive any compensation from shipper for the damages they made to our precise severely scratched cherry wood furniture, broken glass art work, and damaged expensive glass dining table and sofa fabric. Not a penny. The story as Star of David tells me is that we shipped a whole bunch of garbages across the continent.
Learn about this, my friends. Learn how to fight with this kind of fraud with some criminal businesses and individuals. We can not fight through court as plaintiff has to be in the stae where the company reside. But we are in touch with department of transportation and have received some response. There is nothing we can do, but fight throgh all possible means.
