This report concerns Securus Technologies which provides phone service from prison and jails. Buried in the fine print is a clause that all monies have to be used either by call usage or by request of a refund within 180 days or be forfeited. I deposited $25 of which I never used any. Upon review of my account I found my balance to be zero.
A customer service representative guided me to this clause which was buried three levels deep. She was unable to tell me where my money went except that it was gone for good. While this may not be illegal, I would certainly consider this to be deceptive practice and warn everyone to be extremely cautious with dealing with this company. The sad fact is that they have a monopoly on providing telephone contact between inmates and their loved ones.
