Ripoff in business to fraudulantly bill people for services not requested

My wife recieved a phone call from a telemarketer one day offering her a free phone card for 1200 minutes for free. The only thing she needed to do to recieve the phone card was answer a series of questions. After she answered the questions, they told her that she would recieve the phone card in the mail.

Well, it turns out that I recieved a charge for long distance service from ILD Teleservices on my next phone bill. They charged me $5 to connect the service and $4.95 a month to maintain the service. Never at any time did the telemarketer tell her that she was authorizing a connection to long distance service.

I called them back wondering why they were charging me and they told me that my wife authorized the service. The operator told me that he could cancel the service but that I would still have to pay the amount on my phone bill for this month. That is a complete lie. They can take charges on and off of bills at will and for them to tell me that they can't do that is a lie. SBC is my local service and they are probably almost as much to blame because they allowed a third party to bill me on the same bill.
