I decided to ditch my cable TV to take advantage of an offer by Directv and American Airlines to get 10,000 bonus miles by signing up for Directv. I attempted to sign up for service via www.aa. Directv.com but was unable to complete the final purchase. I also called the official number 800-375-5752 for assistance. The instructions to get the bonus points said I MUST sign up one of these two ways. The Directv representative said that because I live in a condo, Directv uses 3rd-party service companies to install the system. (The same is true for apartments.) Because of their arrangement with the 3rd-party company the rep could not sign me up but instead referred me to the 3rd-party company. This 3rd-party company knew nothing about the bonus offer but since there was no other way to get Directv, I decided to give it a try and hope Directv would honor the bonus for me being a new customer.
