DirecTV advertises that if you refer a friend, both you and your friend
receive a $100 credit on your bill. This is paid at $10/month for 10
months. All the friend has to do is give your account number at the
installation and in 4 to 6 weeks, you will receive your credit.
This is a scam for DirecTV to gain more customers. They do not pay the
bonus as promised. I referred friend following the instructions
explicitly and have yet to see my credit some four months later.
My friend called DirecTV to inquire into the credit and they claimed they
knew nothing of him being referred by me. I called today and customer service
said they had no record of my referral for my friend. I let the customer
service rep know that I will be canceling my DirecTV when my commitment is up and
I will be switching to either Dish Network or back to cable.
This is a true scam, because the advertising is
intended to be deceptive. If you want DirecTV, do NOT plan on ever receiving
the advertised referral credits, EVER.
When signing up make sure your friend has your account
number, get the customer service agents name, make note of dates and
conversations and record the conversation if possible.
Forget all that; just go with Dish Network instead.
In the meantime, speak out; spread the word on the internet that DirecTV refer
a friend is a SCAM.
