Signed a 1-year contract on 12/19/01. I asked specifically about their policy of automatically renewing a contract and was told by their representative all I had to do was write on my bill that I did not want my contract renewed (30 days prior to anniversary date).
I gave written notice as instructed in October and again in Novmeber 2002. And as instructed, asked to go to month to month billing.
Today - having paid for these phones for 2 1/2 years, I tried to cancel my service but was told I'd be charged $200 per phone for early cancellation. They say they have no record of my notification/and they do not have month to month service. I will only be able to cancel by sending written notice 30 days before my anniversary date of December 19. I suppose that too will depend on whether they decide to recognize my written request.
Evidently, you are tied to a life-time contract with SUNCOM. I warn any potential customers to get anything you are told by their agents in writing!
