Bauer Comfort USA cold called my mother, who is a senior citizen living in a small studio apartment on a very fixed income, and pressured her into buying a mattress for $1,303. The mattress arrived and turned out to be of an extra-long size and hard as a brick (completely uncomfortable and impossible to sleep on). When my mother called the company and complained that the mattress was too long and did not fit into a regular bed frame, the salesperson refused to take the mattress back but rather obnoxiously suggested that my mother cut off the bed posts on one side of the bed.
Since then I have called a number of people at the various branches of the company and they all refuse to take back the mattress. Now is it sitting in the small studio apartment, unused, and I am not sure what to do with it. The sum of $1,303 is gone.
I have called the Attorney General office based on Brooklyn and filed a complaint. Please do the same. They take fraud cases against senior citizens very seriously. The number to call is (718) 722-3949. Please ask for Ms. Palmer.
Additionally, please call the Federal Trade Commission at (888) 382-1222. Once they have received a sufficient number of complaints, they will start a formal investigation.
