We bought a bed from Ashley, waited 3 wks. For the bed to come into the store. We picked the bed up ourselves, we live over 100 miles from the store. Got the bed home and went to put it together and found damage on one of the splines on the headboard. The spline slides into a groove on one of the legs. We called the store, they said they would have someone call us in a couple of days. At this point we had been sleeping on a mattress on the floor for 3 wks. And thought we would be nice, not make a fuss, and try to fix it ourselves. We put a C clamp on the spline to compress it so it would fit into the groove. It worked. We put the headboard together and stood it up. Some of the material from the spline had split off and was showing on the front so we had to take the leg off and work with it some more. Put it back together, put the rest of the bed together, positioned it against the wall, put the mattress on and stood back to admire our work.
When I went to put the sheets on, I noticed a big scratch on the floor, in front of the leg we had the problem with. We have 71/2" oak floors. Got down on the floor to take a closer look and it was a sizable scratch and it was deep. Called the store, they said they had a guy in Salem working that day and he would call us. He called and told me to send a picture, which I did, to his cell phone, which he said he never got. He said there was a level and screw on the bottom of the leg and that must be what's scratching the floor. He said he could not get to us that day, that he was very busy. We waited for someone to call us the next business day, finally called the store around 4:30. Was told someone would call us. No one called. We called again and were told it was not their responsibility, that if their delivery men had scratched the floor they would send someone out but since we picked it up and set it up ourselves, it was our problem. The fact that the floor was not scratched by us putting the bed together but by something in the leg itself did not seem to matter or get across to them. It was not their problem and they were not going to deal with us. The district manager for the store could not even be bothered to talk to me. Now that is what you get for trying to be honest and nice and not make a fuss. We should have taken it back at the first sign of a problem. We will never buy from this company again. I really get tired of big companies treating us everyday people like idiots. Don't buy from this company.
