I was at the QT the one on Page Avenue Overland off 170, Saint Louis, MO - 63114 on the 06/02 at about 12:20Pm to buy a pack of cigarettes, the cashier asked me for my ID proof (Iam 27yrs Old), so I gave him my US work authorization permit card issued by the federal govt. The cashier who seems just joined asked the cashier next to him who looked more experienced about the proof of ID, the experienced cashier who is white shook his head so they declined to accept my purchase.
When I inquired, they said that they ONLY accept Driver's License, I pointed the notice put up outside the QT which says "anyform of State or Govt issued photo ID" and my photo ID was issued by the US Homeland security which is Federal. Asked him take a second look at my ID however he refused to, when I asked him why? He said " because my manager told us to accept ONLY Driver's License", I told him this is my form of ID, he said "The Policy says" when I asked him to show me the policy he refused to show me the policy and asked me to call a number and did not give me the number either.
I was very insulted and consider this to be an act of prejudice and racism. Iam an Indian and my right was denied. I have given a customer feedback at their QT website.
This incident had put me through mental stress that Iam still pondering about it at this hour which is way over 12hrs, no sleep and typing this complaint at 1:30am on 06/03. I feel I was treated unfair. He was very disrespectful in front of all the other customers and I was very much insulted. It sounded to me like he wanted to stick to his ignorance, I have always purchased alcohol drinks or cigarettes with the same photo ID card several times at the same QT and different places and this is the 1st time I have been put through so much by a QT employee. I do not have a driver's License yet, as Iam new to the country.
I would like this to be escalated further and need some assistance.
I would also like to know who to contact or how to go about incase of this kind of prejudice or racist behavior from anyone in this country.
