I went to Finishline in the mall tonight for the first time. I found a pair of Nikes that I wanted and the price tag both inside and outside the shoe was posted at $49.98 but when the cashier rung me up, I was charged $59.98 instead. When I brought this to their attention, they refused to honor the price that was on the display shoe. So I had them refund my money altogether (yes, I had bought something else that also went back) and called their district manager.
Ron Carter, the district manager, proceeded to tell me on the phone that it was NOT a law that retailers have to honor the price they show on their displays — and that he was basically — by his attitude — fine not to have the business. Mind you, while I was in the store shopping for over a half hour there was NO ONE else in the store and when the girl did my refund she said that my sale was one of very few today.
He kept saying that it was human error and cited that I was wrong about there being a law that retailers are required to honor the prices they advertise. He said I could take the 20% coupon that came with the REFUND receipt and go get the shoes; however, I had already left the mall for the night. Furthermore, why give a customer a 20% coupon off if the reason is a $10.00 discrepancy to begin with. Why not just make the customer happy and honor the price on the shoe?
This kind of idiocy is what's leading businesses to close - not the economy — and I can assure you I will never, ever shop at this store or its website again.
Buyer beware! Always read your receipts - preferably at the counter when you first get them - Retailers like this will rip you off in a heartbeat and not even make good on the situation. Customer is definitely insignificant to them. That was clear by my conversation with the regional manager, Mr. Carter.
