Rip-off defective merchandise nasty attitudes & mudslinging illinois

On 10-25-02 i ordered a 3 pc. Candle holder set with great expectations. The mecrhandise arrived within normal shipping times and i had planned christmas / holiday use with them. The candleholders are anywhere from one and one half feet to four feet.

On dec 5th i finally got to use the holders with tragic results. Not only did the candle holders drip wax all over the tabletops and ajoining decortive peices, the tallest of the three tipped over, the force of impact break some things but the wax went on to walls tabletops windows chairs etc.

I quickly took care of the fire that was caused (having burned candles for several years, you always keep a fire extinquestor handy!!!) and removed the burned table cloth etc. Etc. Tears came to my eyes thinking about what could have been.

The following morning i then called cust. Service and
explained what happened. I tlked with brian at 1-800-443-4856 who immeadently credited my account and was apoliganetic and referred me to a miss cherly bartos and told me she would be immeadently contacting me.

Several days passed and no such call. I recalled brian and got a
# for cheryl bartos, the only problem was it was not her number. After 5 to 6 calls leaving messages with this number, i later found out that it was her assistant, i talked with a live person on or about jan 2 opr 3 i finally talked with ms. Bartos and told her the situation and that i woulkd be sending the candlesticks and pictures of the damage and costs related to her the followind day or two by return confirmation mail and would talk to her then.

The following week after not hearing from her but knowing the packages were there i called back. I got ahold of ms. Bartos who had stated in a breif message that she had several questions, and that the candle sticks were not there. (on a sidenote) ms.
Bartos assistand had confirmed with me that they hadreceived the candle sticks but were awaiting the 2nd package of pictures) in 20 minets of conversation with ms. Bartos she stated several comments shucking responsiblity off to the importer, manufact. Etc.

At this point after ms. Bartos comment of " this could take
a long time" i stated that not once did i hear here say how sorry she was that this event happened. I agreed to send additional pictures of the use and damage to her.

I have retained all receipts and postage things as well as
copies of my letters and her recorded voice mails.

This brings us to today jan 27th. After not hearing from
her i deceided to take matters a step higher.

On friday of last week i called or tried to at least call brian toget the name of the c.E.O. (melissa payner) their office told me the name but would not give me the #. I tracked down the corp. Number 1-630-986-8800 and called it this morning. I had the chance to call and spoke with a very nice assistant (diane gaggini) who took the iunfo my name and number and assured me that this would get to the right person. I hung up and called cust service back to get the order number.

I called back diane and provided it to her. (once again she was
extreamly nice) during this time a nasty message in tone and content was left in my voice mail from ms. Bartos with the remark" i have been told you re calling around looking for you money" and other content.

I immeadently called back to diane and played the message for her.

Diane assured me it would get to the right person. I told diane that i would be home to 1 pm today. Got home at 2.30 denver time and called diane back. I was told there is a meeting and they cannot come out.

The total amount that i am claiming is 844.00 i feel that a company as big as speigel is shoul tell people the truth, not run them around, stand behind and be responsible for what they sell and not try to stall people by passing off the blame to everyone else.

Speigel needs to know that i am not going to be treated like this. Oh i forgot to mention that " everyone in customer service is aware of this" and also speigel claims they do not have the candlesticks.
