Clean cut young man showed up on my porch telling me about a "free" home security system my neighbors were signing up for. He was slick and he talked this little old lady into signing up. Later I checked out the information he gave me about crime in this area: untrue.information about my neighbors: untrue. Only two out of 80 households in my mobile home park signed up.
The system was not "free" but would cost me over $1600 over three years and the contract had a substantial (75% of balance) cancellation fee. He wanted one of my checks to copy the number of my account but he didn't give it back. Then the technician left without installing the smoke detector. I chased him down in the street and he came back. It was 10:00 P.M. When they left.
Luckily I live in Oregon and that gives me three days to cancel the contract. So I did. Sent the letter certified mail this morning. I think the whole thing was a scam. I am not even sure the equipment would have worked. I read some other rip-off stories online.
