Our daughter goes to school at East Tennessee State University, located in Johnson City, TN, she lives in an apartment complex that uses a third party utility service collector named Conservice out of Logan, Utah.
Last year, she was billed $45.00 for a ONE-TIME SET UP FEE to establish her account, we paid the fee because it was a service the apartment complex used and they wrote it into the lease that they used ConService as their third party administrator for utilities. However, this year she received another bill for a ONE-TIME SET UP FEE! She lives in the same apartment, but ConService states that if you sign a new lease for a New Year you have to pay the ONE-TIME SET UP FEE again!
There are 130 apartments in the complex, 4 students per apartment, which equals to 520 students. Multiply that by $30.00 and ConService has just collected $15,600.00 for WHAT? ConService states that the set-up fee is to place each student's name in the computer.
Tonight, I called ConService to find out who regulates them and to get the name of their president, owner, shareholders or anyone I could voice a complaint, no one would give me that information, the only response I received was 'I don't know'.
I think ConService is a great name for this company because a 'Con' is what all the students are getting when they have to pay a ONE-TIME SET UP FEE every year! In our case twice!
I think ConService needs to be investigated to find out if it is a legitimate company licensed to steal money from innocent college students and ultimately their parents.
