Rick from Collins Home Improvement contacted me through an internet ad I placed for help cutting laminate counter tops. He quoted me a price and we scheduled. He came out and cut the counter tops and we paid him. I actually paid him a little more than we initially discussed because more cuts were needed than I described when he quoted me a price and I figured it was only fair.
I emailed Rick the next day and asked him to check his materials to see if he had an extra tape measure because we were using ours to help him while he was at the house and could not find it the next day. He never replied. I then left him a voicemail message a day or two after that and he did not reply.
Then we had another contractor come over to help us with other work in the house and he pointed out some serious problems with the counter tops. The sides are crooked and wavy. When you look at them straight on, it's awful. It didn't even occur to me to check for that. I assumed that if a contractor does counter tops and they cut your counter tops, they're done. Now that I am aware of how crooked they are, I notice it every time I go into my kitchen and it makes me angry.
I left a voicemail for Rick again about this and he never called me back. I emailed him multiple times and have never received a reply. Before he did this work for us, he answered his cell phone by the second ring and now he won't answer, I keep going to voicemail. I made a BBB report about this on 06-28-07 and, since he is not a BBB member, they couldn't do anything. They could not reach him for reply. My desired settlement detailed said "We are simply requesting that Collins Home Improvement sends someone back out to fix the bad cuts they did to our counter tops. Otherwise, a full refund would be appropriate. That would enable us to hire a different contractor to go behind Rick and clean up his poor work."
This man stole a very nice tape measure from my home, messed up my counter tops, took my money, and has absolutely no interest in ever showing his face or even returning a call or email again. I have since hired someone else who is going to fix the horrible job he did to my counter tops and I want other people to know to avoid Collins Home Improvement or Rick Collins at all.
