Ripoff UPS refuses to honor insurance claims over $700 lost

I sent my son, who was living in Davie, Florida at the time, a computer that I had custom built for him as a birthday present in December. It arrived just fine.

Unfortunately, he crashed the hard drive and decided he didn't want to deal with it and his father went to a mail handling (like Mail Boxes, etc.) company to ship it via UPS. He paid for Insurance on it.

When it arrived, three days later than promised, it was completely broken. The mouse didn't even have the roller ball in it anymore. Boxes were smashed and the case of the CPU was even dented! The monitor was broken and pins were missing from the plug.

I immediately contacted UPS. I got a claim number, and they picked it up to "examine" it. I didn't hear anything for over a week. I finally got in touch with UPS damage claim examiners after a run around and many long distance calls.

I was told they had already shipped the machine BACK to the mail box company and that they had no liability even though they were the actual shipping entity!

I was never consulted regarding shipping the machine back to the mailing company. So, I was out the machine and all the money I paid to have it built.

After 4 months of arguing with the owner of the company and UPS, I finally got the BROKEN machine back. Lucky me. I have never gotten a dime in compensation even though there was $500 in insurance on the original package. Needless to say, I don't trust UPS as far as I can throw their little brown trucks.
