We contracted IGK Enterprises to remodel two of our bathrooms. We came across their website through a search engine.
Gregor Kohn looked at the scope of work, and wrote us a proposal with prices on the spot. He seemed professional and knowledgable.
In addition, we were impressed with his follow up letter, thanking us for the opportunity to bid on the job.
Unfortunately all went downhill from here.
His demolition crew showed up one day without prior announcement, which gave us no time to prepare. We let them start anyways.
During demolition, the drywalls to our kitchen got damaged and we were promised by Michel, their finisher, that they would take care of the damage. This never happened.
Quality of work:
We had a total of 3 tile guys working on our job. One tile setter, Dennis, was very good and seemed to have pride in his trade. The other two guys basically slammed the tiles to the walls. One of our bathrooms has a mix of square tiles with a mosaic inlay border. The square tiles are thicker than the mosaic inlay.
The tile setter did not bother to build up the wall where the mosaic inlay needed to go, and therefore the mosaic inlay is not flush with the square tiles.inside the walk-in shower, the floor was not floated correctly so the mosaic tiles are not straight.
The bathroom door was supposed to be repainted which was not done.
Bathroom 2: was tiled to 90% by Dennis but needed to be finished by someone else since Dennis was leaving town for personal reasons. The young kid they sent did not see that some of the tiles had a different color and he applied some borders incorrectly. Dennis actually came by to look at the bathrooms on his own time a few weeks later, which we appreciated.
The plumber scratched the tub spout which was never replaced by IGK (we provided the majority of the materials). The guy was actually very unfriendly and almost scary. We gave the scratched spout to Michel.
The scope of work also included the installation of a new bathroom vanity with counter top and vessel sink. My husband ended up installing the counter top and vessel sink himself.
IGK's finisher, Michel, is an allround talent who tried to correct some of our complaints but in the end was not dispatched again (we were promised by the lady in the office that we would come in one Saturday which never happened)
Dealing with IGK:
The lady in the office is extremely rude. She promised to send workers which then did not show up. We asked Mr. Kohn to come by to address our complaints. He did in fact stop by, rang the bell but did not give me enough time to get to the door. I immediately called the office asking for Mr. Kohn to turn around but he didn't.
We were charged $ 395 for permits which were never pulled. My husband got very upset while talking on the phone with him. Mr. Kohn's answer was that he is no longer doing work in Dade-County.
Bottom line:
Fast and sloppy work
We had the impression that IGK takes on too many jobs and that their stuff then gets juggled from one job to another. We fully understand that it can be a logistical challenge when things do not go right on one job which then has an avalanche effect to other jobs. However, if a promise was made that a worker will show up and this need to change, call and let us know! We just don't like to get lied to or brushed off by office staff when calling.
They did not provide all the work that was listed on the proposal and paid for.
