Wal-Mart And Safeway
Sales receipt issues

After surfing into Usa Consumer Complaints.com and doing a search on Wal-Mart, I was astonished at all of the reports that were on file.

I would like to comment on an incident that happen to me recently at a Super Wal-Mart center in Apache Junction, Arizona a couple of days ago.

Please note that I have never had any notable dissatisfaction with Wal-Mart's service worth posting on the Internet as of this date. The following observation that I am about to post was party motivated by a no receipt issue that a friend of mine had with the Safeway store also located in Apache Junction. I will not commint on the Safeway store incendent because of possiable future legal action against this grocery store chain and the fact that they have been given an opportunity to redeem themselves if they wish to do so.

I returned a Wal-Mart item that I had purchase a few days earlier and wanted to replace it with the same item, but of a different color, that I had already picked out and had with me. I informed the person at the service counter that I had misplaced the receipt and ask if that would be a problem. She said that I would have to show her a valid Drivers License for identification, which I did. She typed some information into the computer that was off of my Drivers License, printed out a receipt for change and had me sign it. She then put the item in a bag and handed it to me. I noticed that there was not a receipt in the bag and asked her for one. She responded,? What for? I explain to her that it would prove that the item was mine incase a security agent stopped me at the door and wanted proof that the item was mine. She replied in a very gruff manor that if that happen to just come to she and she would say it was ok.

I found this very unusual and a bit annoying, but she was the only one at the counter at the time and there must have been at least 10 customers waiting in line for service, so I just let it go against my better judgment.

If I was to be approached by a Wal-Mart Security person, loss-prevention agent, or whatever they may called themselves, and was accused of shoplifting, and the only way I was to be able to redeem myself was to be escorted by the agent pass other customers and Wal-Mart employees to the service desk to prove my innocence, I would have been a very unhappy camper to say the least. (Sorry for the long sentence)

Now you may say that this would never happen, but this has the same aspects and parallels the same situation with uncanny resemblance that my friend had with Safeway. It sends shivers up my spine just thinking about it as I write this note. She was humiliated, degraded and almost arrested for shoplifting because she did not have a receipt.

In conclusion, and unlike what I neglected to do, may I suggest to always DEMAND A RECEIPT for what you buy regardless of how unconformable they may try to make you feel. If you won't, someday you may really regret it! This is just my two cents for what it is worth!
