I had been shopping at Wal-mart & as I attempted to leave the store with my purchases, I was stopped before I even got to the alarms at the front doors. At this time the Wal-Mart employee who had stopped me asked me for my receipt (to verify I had in fact paid for my merchandise), I handed them my receipt & they verified everything was in fact paid for.
My receipt was handed back to me & I was well on my way... Or so I thought... I was putting my items I'd purchased into my car when two Des Moines Police officers ambushed me. They then asked to see my receipt, I showed them, they gave it back, then they proceeded to order me to remove my items from my car & put them back in the shopping cart.
I did as they instructed & within seconds after complying with their orders I was ordered to turn around and put my hands behind my back, then they placed me in handcuffs! Then they asked me who's car it was that I was putting everything into, I told them it was my mother's, & they said, "we're gonna go inside & check our cameras to see if your Mom came with you & if you're lying you're gonna go to jail."
They escorted me & my 2 yr. Old son back into the store & once we got inside their office in the store they removed the handcuffs & asked me what I was doing & why I was being so rude (not their exact words, but I'm much classier then they are). They then reviewed the tapes & saw that my mother was not with me, they patted me down & retreived my photo I.D., at this time they discovered it was a Non-Driver I.D. They ran my name & social security number through their dispatch & were informed I was barred from driving until sometime in 2008. Upon receiving this information, they placed me under arrest, allowed me to call a relative to come pick up the vehicle I was driving, & told me they would wait to take me to jail until someone got there to get the car & my son!!!
There were two prior incidents before this one & in both incident I'd been singled out & asked to provide my receipt. On one of these two occasions the couple right in front of me went through the self-checkout line & conviently forgot to pay for at least one 20 lbs. Bag of cat litter, & were never even looked at!!!
When all was said & done I was arrested for disorderly conduct, harrassment of a police officer, & driving while barred. Not to mention, my picture was taken & posted on the "Wall of Shame", & I'm banned from Wal-Mart! I had to post $750.00 bond to get out of jail & nobody that I've contacted, both Des Moines Police Department or Wal-Mart, sees anything wrong with the way I was treated!!!
