Target's exchange/return, policy has driven me away ripoff

I am no longer shopping at ANY Target store. I am so glad to see this many people voicing their displeasure with Target.

I also tried to make a return 9 days past their magical 90 day policy. I had bought an AbSlide, a piece of exercise equipment. Before I had ever used it, I had an accident that banged up my knee pretty badly. The AbSlide got pushed aside and forgotten about. I later decided that with my knee, I couldn't get down on the floor and use this equipment. I had the receipt, but when I tried to return the merchandise, I was told it was past the 90 days and maybe I could call the manufacturer. I asked what good that would do, the product wasn't damaged. The cashier got the manager after I asked to speak to someone else. I said I was willing to take an in-store credit. They offered me the clearance price and said that was the best they could do. I decided to keep my purchase and write to their company headquarters. I related my story to them, but the response letter stated that they wanted to be equally fair to all their customers and spouted the same policy. It ended saying they hoped I would shop at Target again. The most unusual thing about this "business letter" was that the person who signed it used her first name and only her last initial. Things must be getting pretty bad up there.

Target referring to their customers as "guest" is an insult. This is not how you treat a guest.

I have two daughters getting married soon. I strongly urged both of them NOT to register at Target because of their return policy and problems I had heard about duplicate gift purchases. One daughter didn't take my advice and has registered there. We'll see how that goes. I know for a fact that one family member had to call the store two or three times to tell them she had already purchased an item a week earlier and it had not been removed from the registery.

Here in Cincinnati, the athletic shoe store, Just For Feet, is no longer in business. I don't know about the rest of the county. They also had a very unfriendly customer service policy. I found a website someone had created just to voice complaints about that store.

There are too many other place to shop like K-Mart, WalMart, and Meijer to bother with Target.
