Exchange policy joke

Our little one received a Dora snuggle pillow, which I would term a toy, for Christmas. Everyone in our family knows she loves Dora, and she received two of this identical gift.

I checked with my sister, who lives about two hours away and she said she got it at Target. This still has all tags on it and is in pristine condition. I tried to return it (Yes, I know. Shame on me-no receipt/and before you yell gift receipt, she didn't get one because it was 'Black Friday' and she had a cart full of merchandise).

Not being up on exchange policy, since I usually keep what I purchase, I figured "NO problems, since i just wanted a simple exchange". Ha Ha, I was told that this was not a toy and I could exchange it for something of equal or greater value from the HOME IMPROVEMENT department. I thought the associate was confused, and asked for her supervisor.

By the time I was dismissed by the store manager and told to call guest relations, I had seen enough. Target has lost another customer, and every family member and friend she can take with her, because if the corporate offices don't trust their management enough to allow for unusual situations like this, I don't either. Keep in mind, I didn't want to return a stuffed Dora doll and get a C.D. Or earrings, just another toy for a little girl who already had one.

I know the associates and management team have no authority to make decisions so I don't blame them for policy, but they could at least 'act' as if they cared about customer satisfaction. And before any Target employee responds that the policy is for everyone, and I'm no-one special, let me say that neither is Target. I was even told by someone at the 'guest relations' line that they receive a lot of grief over the policy restrictions.

Does Target really think that by irritating honest customers (since the crooks won't be offended) they are going to keep their customer base? In closing, I can only repeat that this was the dumbest $15.00 mistake I've seen a retailer make in a long time.
