Empire Today Workers robbed jewlery from our home

In November we had Empire today install laminate flooring to 2 of our bedrooms and carpet to the stair. One the first day, they came to install the flooring, the were very efficient and di the job well. We had taken everything out of the rooms so their job would be alittle easier. When they finished the floors, that evening we had put everything back in the rooms. Nothing was missing. The piece of Jewlery was there. The Next day 2 different men came to install the carpet. Only 1 of the 2 of them spoke broken english. These were contractors that Empire hires to do their work. I was not aware of that until we we were robbed the the carpet installers, I assumed they would of sent people who work for Empire. Please be advised this is not the case. They only had to install the carpet on the stairs. We had closed all the doors upstairs as they had no business in any of the rooms there, ONLY the STAIRCASE. After they left and we paid them. Everything looked just fine. Then next morning I get a phone call from my husband, asking me where his gold chain and Christ head was. He goes to work very early, and did not want to wake me. I said I would look on the floor in the bedroom, thinking it may have fallen. I searched the entire house. It was gone. I then Called Empire to Tell them what had occured. They gave me a incendent number and told me to call the police. I did that, filed the robbery complaint. The detective came the house, took down all the information, and would follow up to try and contact the contractors that installed the carpet. They contacted Empire and were given the contractors name and number. TheyFould out exactly who was in our home doing the installation. Of course the contractor said he did't take anything but can not speak for the worker who was with him. The police tried to contact the worker be were not successful at all.

We also found out from the police that another family 2 towns away from us, were robbed as well. Same situation, same contractor. What does that tell you? Since the police were unable to get this guy, we had to go back to Empire Loss Provention. They told me to get an estimate for piece that was stolen. We did that and sent everything over to them. The value of the piece was about 3500.00. They come back to me with an offer of 1200.00 for pieces that they found on the internet. Is this some kind of joke? Then they want me to sign some knd of Waiver.

I also have a laywer involved and she is getting the run around.

I have always been an honest person. All I was asking for was the value of the necklace so I can replace it. Not to say it will replace the sentimental value, as this piece of jewlery was given to my husband about 30 years ago from his now deceased mother.

I would also like to say, What would of happened to me if I would of caught this guy in the act? I was home alone with the installers.

As of today, this is still not resolved. This is now 6 months.

I have contacted the police department again to see if they will give me the names of the people in the other town that were robbed. Maybe the 2 of us can go to the media to shake things up.
