On 9-26 my mother had email issues with Yahoo Mail and Googled the Yahoo tech support number. She came on the number 1-800-941-7590 which belongs to this website, https://www.globaltechhelp.com/contactus.html. After talking to a “yahoo mail rep” she allowed the rep remote access to her computer through www.logmein123.com so he could investigate what the trouble was. He opened her driver settings and showed here that all of her drivers where turned off. He told her that her computer was severely compromised and that she needed to talk to Microsoft Support (with whom he could conveniently connect her with) to buy support for $199.99. She disconnected the call because she was suspicious of the sell tactic. It is unknown at this time if any malicious software was uploaded to the PC during the remote connection. This is a new website registered in April to someone in New Delhi, India even though the site says they are located in Illinois.

From my mother:
Starting very early in the morning, I started getting MAILER-DAEMON notifications that Yahoo emails
I’d sent were returned undeliverable. But I hadn’t sent them.By the time I got up, there were half a
dozen in my Yahoo mailbox. And they kept coming throughout the day. Figuring my yahoo mail had
been hacked, I changed my password, but an hour after changing it, I got another MAILER-DAEMON
notification.

So I Googled for a Yahoo Mail contact #, and I called the 1st entry on the page. It rang but no one
answered. So I tried the 2nd number listed (800 926 7048). An operator came on and said they were
transferring me to the first available agent. I didn’t hear if they initially answered that it was Yahoo, so I
asked him and he said yes ma’am. He had a heavy accent.

I explained the problem with my receiving all these MAILER-DAEMON emails and he told me my email
had probably been hacked. Then said, let me do some checking. He promptly came back and said
that yes my email had definitely been hacked, and that likely more than that had been hacked. He
recommended not to enter any personal account #’s or bank account #’s online or anything I wouldn’t
want hacked. Then he asked could he access my computer to confirm his suspicions? I was leery but I
said yes.

He had me type something into the browser bar, I can’t remember what it was but it ended with 123,
and then hit Enter. He immediately had access to my computer…closed my browser bars…went into
file after file after file of my computer faster than I could read what he was doing. He eventually got to
a window that I think was titled ‘Configurations’, but I can’t remember for sure. He showed me a long,
long list of all the drivers on my computer, the majority of which were labeled as ‘Stopped’.

Then he opened Notepad and typed a message with who he recommended to fix my computer, because
he said the whole thing had been compromised. He asked if I had a Microsoft repair shop close by,
and I said no. (I didn’t think Microsoft had repair shops) He then recommended I contact an online
Microsoft technician, and when I talked to them, that I should order a package to clean up and repair
my computer at a cost of $199.99. They would clean it up & make repairs, do bi-monthly checks on my
computer for a year, and that their work had a lifetime guarantee. And that I should do it right away.
He recommended the sooner the better, because the damage would continue to get worse.

I told him I didn’t have $200. But I would talk to my son and let him decide what to do. If I wanted to
buy the repair package, could I just call that same # again and get the information? And he yes ma’am,
that's correct.
