On 10/23/10, I bought, from Sears, a Kenmore Refrigerator Model # 106.60932900 at Parker, AZ. For the amount of $600.
I am disappointed because the refrigerator stopped working on January 24, I called Sears on January 27th when we realized that the freezer had completely thawed out. A repairman was scheduled to come Feb. 2nd – he said that the compressor was dead and it would cost $900 to repair (I have a written quote). The quote for the com presser to repair was $600 (which I could order online from Sears for $400) and for installing was $300 more. Since the refrigerator would have totaled $1500 if repaired to working condition we opted not to have it fixed. Also we had been without a refrigerator for close to 2 weeks and when talking to Sears about this problem they only stated that they could cover the service call and after that it would be up to us. We went and purchased another refrigerator.
I sent a email to Sears complaint department and after a week they called back and offered to replace the refrigerator. That would have been about 3 weeks after the frig stopped. After stating that we already had a new one and would like our original $600 back, then there was a offer of $150.
I understand that it was under warranty for 12 months. I have paper work that shows that we were gone to Montana for a 6 month period and the electricity was disconnected. I have electrical statements to prove this. Therefore we only used the refrigerator for a total of 10 months. This product was not of satisfactory quality, fit for one year of use, as laid down by the law.
To resolve the problem I require Sears to refund the $600 for the refrigerator while reserving my right to claim against. I can email copies of all the paperwork mentioned above. I also lost freezer food and went without a frig for 3 week and would have been longer before being contacted.
