Consumer Report

On Friday 12th August at about 5.30pm, I responded to a telephone call from an unknown female with an Indian accent. She told me she was from Microsoft Windows and that my computer was not performing properly and that further use would cause damage. I had previously rebuffed such calls but by coincidence, I did have a small computer problem so I let her continue.By following her instructions, a window was produced showing a list of errors and warnings. This established to me a degree of credibility and as, at age 79, I don't consider myself to be very computer literate, she convinced me that they could fix the problem for $350. They then took over my computer by remote control and told me to leave them to it. Early the next morning I found the original problem had not been fixed so I called my I.T. Consultant who told me I had been the victim of a well-known scam. I immediately cancelled my credit card but not quickly enough to prevent the sum of $362.66 (not $350 as quoted) appearing on the new credit card. Now I am in a dispute with NAB Card Services. Cyber Astro Ltd have sent NAB dodgy documents which I have never seen before.interestingly, they are dated Tuesday August 8th - 4 days prior to my ever having heard of them! Now it appears, in spite of the 27 complaints already recorded against this company, I am about to be forced to pay $366.66 which represents a large part of our income as my wife and I are entirely dependent on the old age pension. Why am I not surprised this mob also dabbles in astrology and fortune telling?
