Consumer Report

I had received calls from a person with an East Indian accent telling me that he was from DELL (i had purchased a new laptop computer online from them on july 31st) and that he needed to get into my computer to work on it, i did not let him in.

I just brushed him off, saying that i would look into it, until, on September 6th i received another (3rd) call from a man with an East Indian accent telling me he was from DELL and that my windows was corrupt that he needed to fix it remotely. He knew my telephone number and address, and the service code number of my computer and a few other personal details that only myself and DELL would know!

So i let him get into my computer to remotely fix this serious problem that i was told needed to be fixed right away. He did stuff on my computer, left new icons on my desktop, at the end of it he said that it cost me $118.14, and asked for my credit card # to pay for it, which i relented and gave him!

My computer hasn't been the same since. When i told my daughter about it she phoned DELL for me. They told her that they never made a call to me to work on my computer ever. She asked him where they were and they said India... (DELL CANADA is now handled in India), and that it's not their fault that someone scammed me.
We know for one thing, the information that man with the East Indian accent that called me (from DELL!) knew information that only myself and DELL would know.
So, either someone within the DELL company is frauding DELL, AND the public by making these calls with the private information that is within DELL on every client/sale.
OR, someone within the DELL company is selling their clients private information to someone outside the DELL company! Which is the SCAMMMING company that is stationed out of India. That is what the Better Business Bureau told us. They told me that my new computer is now compromised by a nationwide scam that has gone viral, and that all my contacts and information on my computer is compromised. To take my computer in to a computer shop and have it completely cleaned. So this scam has cost me the $118.14 plus the cost i will end up with when they are done my computer.
PS... I think that DELL should be responsible for our personal information being leaked/stolen to cause such a SCAM!!! They should have to pay the costs!

PPS... Please spread the word i am a senior, imagine how many other seniors are going through this same thing. That man that scammed me left the remote thing open in my computer until my daughter checked into it and closed it. Some people would never know to do this!!
