AT&T Mobility reports the amount of data usage for my iPad. The problem is, according to reports, they have been misreporting all consumers' data usage. That means that for people who have limited data plans, they may be improperly collecting tons of money in illegal charges. Even for people like me who have unlimited plans, over reporting puts us at a competitive disadvantage. I have no idea if I should be switching to a less expensive data plan, either with AT&T or Verizon. I have initiated arbitration proceedings against AT&T over this issue. Under its contract, they have 30 days to make me a settlement offer (I believe that $1,000 is fair). If I reject it, they have to pay the costs of arbitration (which is approximately $1700); if I win even a penny more than the offer they made me, I get $10,000 and my attorneys get twice their fees. I'm hoping going through this process teaches AT&T that they can't take advantage of consumers.
