BAD checkout experience - Customer Service

So, I was in downtowm Minneapolis on 11/8/09 and decided to stop at the store on Nicollett Mall to pick up a few groceries. So far, so good. I found what I needed, and was good to go.

Well, when it came time to check out, things took an ugly turn for the worse. First of all, I do NOT like waiting in line for well over 5 minutes to pay for a basket of groceries. I know this, because I still had one earphone in, and was counting off the songs that played on my MP3 as I was waiting.

The employee that was monitoring how fast the check-out lines were moving was obviously aware of how slow things were moving, and was constantly talking into his head-set, asking for more cashiers. Not getting any replies, he was directing people to the Express Lanes when a cashier there was open.

FINALLY, I was directed to a cashier, who barely managed to mumble "hi" to me.By this time, a little conversation and a smile would have completely saved my opinion of the long wait. However, this was not to be. The cashier finished ringing up my purchase, told me the price, handed me my change and receipt and said NOTHING else. No, "thank you", no "have a nice day", NOTHING! That was probably because she knew that I'd be absolutely livid when I got home and discovered that she'd put my loaf of bread on the BOTTOM of a bag under heavy items. I know it's easy to think that I enjoy trying to put squished bread in the toaster in the morning, but trust me, this is one of the very few pet peeves that I have.

I have shopped at the downtown store on a regular basis for a few years now, and I can't help but notice the slower and slower check-out times. Of course, this is mainly on weekends when all of the corporate employees aren't around, so it makes sense to not care about the average person anymore. Needless to say, I probably won't be back. I can get my groceries at Rainbow, have decent check-out times, and have cashiers that are friendly and actually TALK to me.
