The university of phoenix is way too much of a rip off. I enrolled in october and for well over $1100 per class i felt like i was taking very remedial education classes for adults. I also tried numerous times to contact my academic advisor to have her enroll me in extra classes and did not receive one return phone call back. It wasnt until i emailed her and said that i needed my transcripts because i was withdrawing and transferring to oklahoma university that she bothered to call back and that was within minutes.
When she asked why i told her that i was in college and not remedial learning, the instructor for our class on team learning had us get into groups and "write out all of the eating places we could think of" this was after she had each student go to the board and write words describing the word "team". I told my academic advisor that i felt the staff were enabling too many people, treating too many people as grade school children, and passing too many people who did not deserve to be passed, and also that the tuition was severly too high for what we were being taught (or not being taught for that matter) and that to tell students in our class that no formal papers were going to be written because none of us had had any formal writing classes was wrong!
This is college and if people are not ready for the challenges college is to bring they need not be there. My advisor attempted to downplay oklahoma university by saying that although the tuition was alot cheaper at ou the school would stick us with multiple fees; again treating me as though i were ignorant and had not done my research prior to my decision to transfer. My partner bryan has also been informed that a degree from uop is not worth the paper it is written on any many employers are viewing uop as very poor in academic standards... Now we see why. Something needs to be done regarding this school, their outrageous fees, and the fact they pass to many students who actually do not make the grades or attendance.
