Scammed into buying a car for $30 a month

We saw the ad's, we could not believe it true, $30 a month for a new 2008 car, a new car each year till 2010. But we drove to Kansas to find out what it was all about. Edward assured us that it was really real.

Edward said they needed good used cars and was willing to make these deals so they could get them. He said that we had gotten in late, so we would only get 6 months at the $30 and would have to make 3-4 full payments before the new cars came out.

But that as soon as the 2009's come out we would be sent notice to come pick out our new car, again paying only $30 a month for the full year this time, and the same when the 2010's come out, and then the next year we would have the option of trading up to 2011 car, keep the one we were driving, or trade down to any used car on the lot.

However, what ever we chose we would then be fully responsible for all payments. I ask what this meant with the price of the car, and how they could do this, wasn't it expensive for them? We were answered that there were incentives being offered by Suzuki that would take care of that cost.

My next question was, What about the cost of the previous car, how would that be handled? The answer was that would be taken care of in the trade in. I said so what ever we still owe on the car will be the trade in amount for the car? The answer "YES".

So we agreed to see what we could do. Thinking that we would not be able to get the car. My sister also was getting one. We arrived at the dealership at 9:30 am... We finally got to talk to the finance manager at 6:00 pm. He said that the deal went through just fine, we had a new car.

My sister however, was not able to get one unless she had a co-signer. My husband agreed to co-sign, again they came back and said that she could not get it that way either, so my husband (again thinking that we would not get it) agreed to have the car put in our name this year, co-sign next year, and the 3rd year then it would be fully financed by my sister.

I again made the finance manager explain how the deal worked, what about the extra charges, how could they make this kind of a deal? He replied that with dealer incentives, 0% financing, American Suzuki incentives, and something else I do not remember what, that the full cost was covered.

We have loved our cars and was very happy and anticipating our new cars coming up. Then we started hearing reports on the news about them not honoring their deals, found out the company had changed names, that they had been put out of business or something, and then the reports on here.

I have written to Legends and American Suzuki to see what they were going to do about the deals, whether they were going to honor them. We don't care if we get new cars, but neither of us can afford full payments, that is why we took the deal. We could afford $30, but not $500-600.
