USA Universal Subscription Agency
Jean Carison, Sales Representative / Ingram, Distributor ripoff Sold magazines which never came

On 2/27/06 a "dude" came to my door with his sidekick. He, Jean Carison (according to my receipt #495492), was selling magazine subscriptions for which he received "points" with which he could win a trip to Mexico.

I didn't want any magazines and was ready to dress for bed when they arrived. It was raining like crazy outside and the wind was howling. I talked for a minute to the two of them and he asked if he could use my phone to call his "team leader" who was his ride back to Chico that evening. He and the guys were competing with the girls team, who always beat them... Sorry girls. I handed him my cordless phone to make the call — still outside my apartment. The "team leader/driver" couldn't come get him for another hour and 15 minutes. I felt sorry for them and asked them to step inside.

He went back to the topic of magazine subscriptions and explained that I could purchase a subscription and have it sent to a Children's Hospital if I liked... Then it would be tax deductible. I know how boring Children's hospitals can be first hand. So I looked through the magazine titles for a suitable one to send. I ordered Nick Jr. To be sent to the hospital I had been in as a girl. I also decided to try a gardening magazine I'd not heard of previously. The total for the subscription was $117.00, a bit much, but most of it was for the kids. I paid cash and he gave me a receipt, which I still have. I had no checks and he couldn't take a credit card. I turned my house upside down and came up with the cash.By now, it was time for him to meet his ride. I loaned him an umbrella, which he was to give to his buddy who supposedly lived in my very large apartment complex.

The next day I tried to find the exact name and street address for the hospital and learned it had moved from San Francisco to Oakland, CA. That's when I started trying to get a hold of the USA Universal Subscription Company. I never could reach them, nor did they return my calls. Then I misplaced the receipt for a time and just recovered them.

I did try to get my umbrella back from his friend, but there was no answer at that apartment for many days. I eventually gave up that effort.

To date 8/16/06 I have never received the subscription I purchased for myself or a phone call from the company. They still answer the phone with an answering machine after hours. I'm still unable to get satisfaction. I did find out the garden design magazine exists. They were unwilling to help me at the time, it was while I was unable to find the receipt. I will continue to attempt to contact both of these entities. I doubt I'll ever get satisfactory resolution. I sure won't order from this company again.
