Consumer Report

I received an unsolicited call from a person with an Indian accent on 8/23 who asked me if I used Windows 7 on my computer. He stated that his company was affiliated with Microsoft and that he needed to examine my PC for some "hacking" that had been occurring with Windows 7. I foolishly let him go in and after several minutes he called back and told me that my computer had been hacked and contained several viruses that had to be removed - then he sold me a package which guaranteed the existing problems would be fixed and my computer would be scanned once a week for any further problems—all for $399.99. As i am an older person who didn't get exposed to the tech world until a few years ago, I bought into everything this person told me. After discussing this with a younger friend, who is "tech savvy"he told me I had been scammed. On 8/24 I called the number on my receipt and asked to cancel my relationship. I was told that my issue would be forwarded to the billing dept and I would receive a call from them within 24 hours. No call ever came so I called again and was told the billing dept didn't work on weekends I needed to call them back on Monday. I did so and received the same run around. It seems that they stonewall and delay in order to wear you down in the hopes that you will give up and go away. Do not do business with these people. They are not affiliated with microsoft. They are an" authorized vendor" of Cyber Futuristics India PLP. Beware of any unsolicited phone calls fro m any one with an Indian accent.
