On Feb 20 I downloaded free computer cleaner software (PC Cleaner, Inc). Software ran and identified numerous problems. Next asked if I wanted to fix problems. I clicked on yes. Software ran a limited cleaning process, then it asked if I wanted complete fix. Again I said yes, and was linked to ad to buy software - paid $39.94 to SAFECART.com via paypal. Ran full software scan, and again numerous problems listed, and clicked on fix it. Software said it was cleaning and repairing, but at the end got message "windows has stopped running". Called the number for PC Cleaner, Inc (855-881-1343) and was told my computer was very infected do not use it. The man on the phone had an Indian accent, and told me I needed Technical Support to fix problem, and the PC Cleaner software could not fix my computer. He told me I could use Best Buy for $299, and they would come to my house and fix computer. But if I want it fixed right now they have Engineers who can sign on my computer and fix it. The cost would be $250, and computer would be fixed in 10 minutes to 1 hour, and service 24/7 for 1 year. Then I was told but do not use your computer for banking or on line shopping now as it is very infected. I then said let's fix it. Next the man tells me I can give you two years service for $379.95 you can save over $100 on 2nd year. I fell for that too. Logged them into my computer with www.signmein123.com and began customer service tech who transferred me to computer tech to fix my computer (Riya Rawal name used on chat screen). He began or so he said to fix my computer.
Two hours later my computer is sitting - no activity on screen. I called 1-855-881-1344 (now I am talking to Premier Tech Support). Again man with Indian accent, tells me he will check on my computer. He tells me sorry for delay, seems no one is working on my computer. Again he asks me to type in www.sign mein123.com. I do and windows box come up asking for six digit sign in number which he gives me 623406. Again someone begins working on my computer remotely. Screen name of this person is Rahul Tandan. One and half hours later he is done and asks me how my computer is running now. It is running the way it always has, I can't tell if infected files were ever there or even removed. He signs off computer - I do survey yes everything works I quess.
A few minutes later I get call from man says he is Rick supervisor of Rahul tech who fixed my computer. Was I happy with service. I don't know as I don't see differnce in computer running. He says is it running ok. I say yes I guess it is I haven't had time to use it that much since you finished. Last night 6pm I get call from man with Indian accent (1-855-881-1343 caller ID#) asking how my computer is running. Is everything ok. I tell him I don't notice anything different after they fixed it, but at times it runs slower. He says ok then I will have tech sign on your computer in we will fix it. Went thru the fix it thing for 2hrs. I don't believe they are doing any computer fixing, and I now feel like a FOOL for even getting involved with them. The least I can do now is WARN others - Don't use PC Cleaner, Inc or Premier Tech Support. Go to Best Buy or someone local that is reputable. You have too much personal and private data on your computer to make the mistake I did.
