Got a call today from a person (Indian accent - called himself Ronny) claiming to be from Windows (Microsoft) who said they had received numerous reports of major viruses coming from my computer and wanted to help me rid my computer and system of them. He then ran me through some computer checks that showed I did have some issues and he noted they were infecting my computer, could cause it to crash and causing it to slow down performance. I allowed him to take control my computer and he showed me other evidence of problems. I became suspicious and started questioning him when he said he could rid my home of all problems and then I challenged his relationship to Microsoft. He confessed that Microsoft and Windows would never call you personally and that he worked for an 'honest'independent company called UTH and for $178.00 he would repair and fix all my (4) computers and LAN. When I questioned him again who he was he provided the UTH website and a 510 call-back number, I hung up and called him back. He tried to convince me he was legitimate and wanted to help and would not steal my data. I refused. Don't know if he was successful in stealing my data or not, but heed my warning—they are not associated with Microsoft or Windows and as he confessed, neither entity would call your home. Do not give them access to control your computer!!! Hang up. It is a scam!!!
