Have been having a problem with new MS Outlook which replaced Hotmail. It will not send to yahoo.com mail.
Searched around the web and somehow Technicalsupporttoday.com came up masquerading as a Microsoft affiliated technical support. I called them and told the Indian guy about the problem and immediately he instructed me to log in with LOGMEIN123. Subsequently I let him take control of my computer and he opened a command window ran through a lot of stuff and at the end he produced a Trojan virus. He claimed Hotmail was fine but there was this Trojan compromising 87% of my computer and how lucky I was because he can still fix it. Whereas if the Trojan had compromised 100% of my computer I would be in deep trouble. Then he showed me a Wikipedia page about Trojan viruses. He said he needed around an hour to go through my machine to remove the Trojan, he needs to go into the registers.
At this point I started to question him about his affiliation and quickly turned off my computer.
Next day I called Microsoft and they stated that Technical Support Today is in no way associated with Microsoft. They also stated that Microsoft cannot tell whether the Trojan or some other spyware was not actually inserted into my computer by Technical Support Today.
I did a Microsoft safety scan and it did find a Trojan virus of a Blacole type which is very dangerous. For almost a two days I did all available virus, spy and malware scans on my machine and hopefully it is now clean.
The Hotmail, Outlook problem persists and apparently has nothing to do with my computer.
I must conclude from Technical Support Today's fradulant tactics that they are not above intentionally corrupting somebody's computer in order that they can "fix" it. They have caused me two days of work and a lot of aggrevation.
