I got a notice yesterday from capital one that my monthly balance was $183.51, so I paid it like I always do, through my checking account. I didn't think it should be that much, so I called back the account, and asked to see my statement. It said you do not have any charges at this time. I had to go through some date-to-date thing to finally see that I had been charged with a service charge at the end of the previous month. I was never told or read that I would be charged a fee. I have a card with LL Bean (barclay) that I've never been charged a fee. I think you should be expressly told when you are being charged by any company.
