I called Capital One at the end of August to cancel my credit card. I paid off the card so there was no balance left. Then in October I received a statement saying that there were new charges to my card and that my new balance was $35.00! Since I had already cut up the card and did not charge anything on it since its cancellation I called customer service to report fraud. How could something be charged to a card that was cancelled? As it turns out that even if you cancel your Capital One card it is not really cancelled... If you use the ard again the account is automatically re-opened! Well since I was not the one to make these charges I called to report fraud. I assumed it was all taken care of. Then I get a call from some collection agency stating that I now owe $76! Why am I responsible for someone else charging things to my card that I had already cancelled, and then getting charged late fees on top of it. So I called Capital One back AGAIN, and cancelled it again! I am only hoping that this time it actually works. If not, I may have to take legal action against this horrible company!
