Will only pay for gas used, not extra fees
I only had gas heat, so I turned my gas off every March and back on in Nov or so.in 2010, I had my heat turned back on after turning it off the past April. My first bill didn't come. I called and was told because it was turned on only a few days before the next billing cycle began that I would not receive one until that billing cycle completed. Never received a bill. Went to turn my heat on about 2 weeks later and Tadaa no heat, no gas... I called. Was told it had been disconnected due to nonpayment. I said wait. I called, this is what I was told. This lady said that was incorrect, according to their records, a bill had been sent out. I never received it. I said ok, so I have a grace period between the time the bill was due and is paid right? She said Nope... Because it was a first bill and had my $100 deposit due on it, there was no grace period before cut off. They cut it off the day the payment was due... That morning in fact... (what if my payment had been in the mail). Then I was told, to have it turned on, I would not only have the $12.00 gas bill (That's all the gas I had used), but now because of the disconnect on my record, my deposit went up to $250, and I would have to pay a second reconnect fee along with the one already showing on my current bill due... Even though I had been a loyal customer for 3-4 years and had never had a disconnect before. I bought electric heaters and used them all winter that winter. I am now in a house with full electric heat. Every house I look at buying, I make sure it has electric heat or a propane tank. Your customer service is terrible and rude. I was a single Mom with a 1 year old, and my only source of heat was cut off in the middle of one of the coldrest months we had that year. I even told customer service that, and was told that wasn't her problem. I wish I'd known about this website then, and I darn sure wish Id written down her name. She was one of the rudest people I'd ever met in my life and she refused to give me a supervisor or managers contact information. I told her before I hung up, that I hoped to God she was in the same situation one day with a baby to keep warm and no heat... She was horrible. I would like this debt completely removed from my credit report. I will gladly pay for the gas I used, but not for reconnect fees or a deposit that I was charged.
