I was contacted by Rick Jarred of Banner Marketing Online, who explained a marketing program they had put together a result of working directly with microsoft. Their program would allow you to bid on various keywords, and when that keyword was typed in on google and 9 other search engines your "banner" basically the top of your website, would appear at the top of the page above all the other normal searches. After hearing the pitch, downloading and "internet explorer update" I typed in one of my keywords, boom, up popped my huge banner. Wow, I though, so I paid $1500 for two keywords.
Also, before registering the keywords, I wanted to make sure I picked the best ones, so I had Rick run a google keyword search and tell me which ones were most searched for. I chose my two and his estimate on the amount of views these keywords would receive was around 20,000 views a month. According to other stats he had, about 2000 a month would actually click on my banner ad and be directed to my site. So for 2 keywords, I was told I'd get in the neighborhood of 3-5 clicks a month to my site.
Well, speed up 4 months later. I haven't received one phone call from this campaign. 4000 views a month to my site, which is nice and offers the exact service as the keyword, and not one call. I've also had 40 different friends type in my keywords on their computers and nothing comes up. The only way someone can see my banner is if they goto banneronlinemarketing.com and download their little "update" then someones computer will show the banner.
So, basically, if someone types in these keywords I paid $1500 for, my banner doesn't pop up, that is why I have had zero calls. Not because you can't guarantee results in advertising like Rick uses as the excuse, but simply because nobody out there is seeing my banner when they type in the keywords.
I have sent numerous emails asking for a refund. Have called many times, only to not be called back. I sent one more refund request this morning. If I don't hear back I want to file a class action suit against this company and have them refund the millions they've taken from people like me who are already broke and trying to market their companies online.
