My laptop would not power up. Called Human Computer and got a quote of $35 for diagnosis. Took it to them and was told it would be $45 — $10 extra for laptops, irrespective of what I was told on the phone.
"Dead motherboard" was the diagnosis, $320 to replace including labor, and they would apply the diagnostic charge. I asked how long it will take, and they said "we are ordering the parts today." "End of next week?" "Possibly, depends on when the parts get here."
After a week and no call from Human Computer, I called to check the status. They told me the parts were ordered and en route from the east coast, but no idea when they would arrive.
I have been burned before by companies who endlessly delay. Since Human Computers refused to give me any idea of when they would get the work done and I need my laptop, I told them to cancel the repair. I try to cut my losses when I start suspecting I'm being had.
The person on the phone got pretty excited, saying they "special ordered" the motherboard, and they would get stuck with it or have restocking fees and shipping charges, etc. Etc. I asked who the vendor was so I could call and check the return policy, but they refused to give me that information. Finally they agreed to return my laptop if I would pay them an extra $15, making it $60 total for the pleasure of doing business.
Told them I would be in the next day to pick it up. When I arrived the next day the laptop was still disassembled. So I had to burn more gas and waste more time to pick it up later when they got it put back together.
In my opinion the treatment I received was very unprofessional. I have no idea if they do good work because I'm not going to deal with folks who can't even give reasonable time estimates. If you want to experience good customer service, DON'T GO TO HUMAN COMPUTERS.
