I saw a billing on my credit card statement today for an amount credited to BILLINGSVC.com for an "eguide" purchase. I investigated to learn that it was for a subscription to www.fullreleases.com.
I discovered them via an Internet search, they looked legitimate and the ad read: "Today Only: Unlimited downloads for just $4.95!" I signed up, paid by credit card and got an email sometime afterwards which read: "
Dear xxxxx,
Your payment has been confirmed and your account has been set up. We hope you enjoy our service! Your username and password are as follows:
Username: xxxxxx
Password: xxxxxxx
Sincerely,
Fullreleases.com Staff"
That's it, so I was surprised at the billing for US$29.95. I went back to the site and there is no pre-sales information to this effect. I did find when I tried to replicate the subscription. I found the fine print on the credit card page.
I then looked for a company's name and address to file a complaint and there is no such information on the website. So I did a domain search and saw that they registered through a proxy to conceal their identity. This company has gone to great lengths not to reveal their identity.
On top of that, when I first purchased the "one-time only" subscription, I discovered it was a rip off because the files are available through Bit Torrent downloads and there is no reason for paying a monthly subscription to access a Bit Torrent database that is readily available free of cost. The company has misrepresented it product, failed to provide full disclosure, failed to provide adequate customer service and support information.
There must be Internet trading laws that this company is violating in the USA.
I did cancel the subscription the same day that I signed up for it but there is no paper trail because the way that their system is set up there is no confirmation emails of transactions.
Something ought to be done about these frauds.
