Computer & Dell Financing Dell Fraud Charging $140 for 90 day warranty, sending defective product ripoff

In July I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1200 from their online site as I had seen a TV ad for this laptop for $399. I upgraded the screen ($50) and shipping was $49. The total bill that I authorized to finance was $488.00. The state of Maine does not charge sales tax on internet purchases.

I received the laptop. It worked fine. Six weeks later I got my first bill. The total was $638.00. I was floored. For 3 weeks and calling every day during their customer service hours, I was transferred, hung up on, given to people who barely spoke English, or I was put on hold for up to 2 hours before being disconnected.

Finally, I got through to someone who put me through to their financial services since I financed it. For 2 more months I got the runaround about the extra $140.00 charge. The idiots refused to put me through to management, hung up on me, screamed at me, barely spoke English, or put me on hold then disconnected me.

Eventually, I got a hold of someone I think was named Rosara who "calmly" explained that the $140.00 charge was for the initial 90 day warranty for parts and labor for the laptop. When I asked why it wasn't put on my original invoice, original finance contract, or displayed prior to my approving the order, she said that it was an AFTER charge which would only appear on my billing statement. She stated that it's an automatic charge on all Dell computers even if I didn't buy it off the internet.

When I told her that I'd talked to others about this and they said they were NOT charged that fee, Rosara said that it was a new thing added to all purchases after March. I then told her that I should have been notified PRIOR to my approving the transaction as this was fraud, she said. And I quote, "Good luck in doing something about it."

I told Rosara that I would be returning the computer and going to Dell as they do NOT make outrageous charges, she stated Dell does not accept computers back without authorization and there would be a $150 return fee charge added to my statement, even if I took the laptop back.

Rosara was then informed by me that I would be paying for only the $488 I initially agreed upon. She stated Dell would send a sheriff to my house to arrest me for grand theft if I didn't pay the whole thing as I would be stealing from Dell and Dell would sue me for stealing.

The last call that was accepted by Dell from me was December 6. Since then, I have been unsuccessful in being able to talk to anyone. As soon as my account information comes up, the call goes dead or they put me on hold.

Anyone else have this issue with Dell??
