If you've read any of the other complaints about Dell, much of mine will contain the same general complaints: non-responsive and apathetic foreign service representatives who've been instructed to virtually ignore and stiffarm customers; no opportunity or provision to escalate a customer's problem so that it will reach the attention of someone who CAN resolve it, etc. However, I am reporting an act of out and out fraud by the computer giant.
I was charged $199 for a two-year warranty that, according to Dell salesman, Walter Beasley, "comes with" the Dell Celerion package I purchased. Well, the warranty DOES come with it, but, after many painstaking hours with most of the Hindi population, I was told that a hidden charge of $199 also "comes with" the package that, oddly enough, somehow escaped being addressed in the advertised price and was purposely hidden by Walter, who assured me that the price he quoted me was the entire price. There was of course no way to resolve the problem. All efforts to reach Walter (whose phone number mysteriously went immediately to voice mail, which was FILLED and unavailable for me to leave a message!). Consumer Affairs reports that Dell has experienced "growing pains." Rubbish. Any company that made 45 billion last year (as reported by Consumer Affairs) could afford decent customer service—if they wanted to. They have realized, like our government, that it is much more profitable for them to put a system in place where customers will readily realize that there is less heartache and expense if we just pay the ticket rather than fight the false speeding charge. Dell Corporation has fraudulent practices and the people in charge of such things are dishonest. I will never purchase another Dell product and my recommendation for other is to do the same.
