Ripoff Rebate deception deceptive company

9 Jan 03- Bought an ARCHOS 20GB Jukebox Recorder at Best Buy.
15 Jan - Mailed in the $50 rebate form with oric UPC. Given 8 weeks for processing.
15 Mar - Eight weeks gone by... No response.
30 Mar - Ten weeks... No response.
15 Apr... May... June... Nothing.
June 24 (today)-Called Best Buy Rebate center (888-797-3956). Directed to check online at www.wheresmyrebate.com.
-Checked there, found record of my rebate request; status is REBATE SUBMISSION IS APPROVED.
Called wheresmyrebate.com (800-390-2344). Was told there is no processing date assigned. Was told to call back in 2 more weeks for update.
-Called Best Buy Rebate center... Was told to call back in two weeks.
MY THOUGHTS: The promised 8-week rebate is now 20 weeks old. Seems like a delaying process, designed to let customers forget about the rebate. Another anecdotal piece of evidence that American Marketing is increasingly based on deceit rather than merit... A discouraging trend.
